Airfix 1:72nd Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary Plastic Model Gift Set
picture
Features:-
The Battle of Britain is regarded by many to be one of the most pivotal events of the Second World War. The main battle took place from July to September 1940 and was the first major campaign to be fought entirely by airpower and was the largest and most sustained aerial bombing campaign up until that time. The 'few' of the RAF stood up to and fought off the might of the Luftwaffe, pitching their outnumbered Hurricanes and Spitfires into deadly combat with Messerschmitt 109s and hordes of Luftwaffe bombers, such as the Heinkel He 111. The Battle had three distinct phases. The first began with attacks on shipping convoys to try and draw the RAF into battle. In the second the Luftwaffe turned their attention to trying to cripple the southern airfields of the RAF by bombing and in this they nearly succeeded. Finally, in the third phase the head of the Luftwaffe Goering, under orders from Hitler, switched his focus to bombing Britain's cities thus allowing the RAF to regroup and regain its strength. By the late autumn of 1940, the RAF had regained air superiority over Southern England, the German losses having become unacceptable and Hitler was forced to cancel his plans to invade Britain in order to concentrate on the planned invasion of Russia. Set includes: - Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IA - Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 - Hawker Hurricane Mk.I - Heinkel He 111 P-2 - Display stand.

Airfix 1:48 Scale Battle of Britain Ready for Battle Plastic Model Gift Set
picture
Features:-
At the height of the summer of 1940, the fate of the free world rested upon the skill and courage of just a few young pilots as the RAF stood alone against the might of the as yet undefeated German Luftwaffe. In the air above southern England, Supermarine Spitfires and Hawker Hurricanes fought vicious dogfights with the fighters and bombers of the enemy. As they wheeled and fought across the sky it was down to a large group of men and women based on the ground to keep these vital aircraft serviceable and armed during these crucial summer months. Refueling was the duty of the then common Albion AM463 refueling truck, which with its three separate hoses was capable of refueling three fighters simultaneously thus speeding up the vital turn around between fighter sorties. The aircraft were rearmed and maintained by armies of fitters and gun crews, feeding thousands of.303 rounds into the gun bays of the waiting fighters. Finally, trucks such as the Bedford MWD were used to transport men and equipment across airfields and around the country in this fraught and dangerous time. While the majority of the recognition goes to the pilots of the RAF, who risked everything to defeat the Luftwaffe, the contribution made by the general crews and other ground personnel must not be forgotten, many were killed and injured in the Luftwaffe attacks on airfields and they worked tirelessly to ensure the RAF emerged victorious. Recreate the action and the history of getting ready for battle in your own diorama using the models supplied in this exciting Gift Set. Airfix A50174 Battle of Waterloo 1:72 Military Diorama Plastic Model Gift Set
picture
Features:-
It's June1815 and The Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte has raised an army and intends to rule Europe. This ambition was finally thwarted on the Battlefield of Waterloo, in what is now Belgium, by an allied army led by the Duke of Wellington. Much of the battle was centered around a farmhouse, and this is the centerpiece of the superb set. ‘I am often asked whether we should not now, in these days of European unity, forget Waterloo and the battles of the past. My reply is, history cannot be forgotten and we need to be reminded of the bravery of the thousands of men from many nations who fought and died in a few hours on 18th June 1815 and why their gallantry and sacrifice ensured peace in Europe for 50 years'. - The 8th Duke of Wellington.

Airfix Battle of the Somme Centenary 1:72 Plastic Model Gift Set
picture
Features:-
The summer of 2016 marks the centenary of one of the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare; the battle of the Somme. Also known as the Somme offensive it started on July 1st 1916 and ran until November 18th and was intended to achieve a decisive breakthrough for Allied forces against the German frontline on the western front in France. Fought on both sides of the River Somme across an 18 mile stretch of frontline trenches, the battle saw the introduction of the first tanks to the western front and also the first concerted struggle for supremacy in the air above the battle field. Whilst men in the trenches were fighting and dying in their thousands, an equally frenetic battle was being contested in the skies above them by a relatively small number of opposing aviators. Aerial reconnaissance played an enormously important part in the battle with aircraft such as the bead photographing the German trenches but it was a hazardous undertaking with new German ‘Scouts' like the Fokker eindecker constantly trying to shoot them down. Later in the battle the British used their new ‘tanks' for the first time to try to break the deadlock. Initially, success was limited due to unreliability and the crew's inexperience but later they made a useful contribution to the allies modest advance. By the end of the Somme offensive over a million men from both sides had been killed or wounded but the French and British forces had penetrated just 6 miles into German held territory.

Airfix 1:72nd Scale WWII Heinkel HE.III P2 Plastic Model Kit
picture
Features:-
Early in the morning of the 26th April 1940, four members of KG 4 took off in their Heinkel He111 P-2 5J+CN from Fernebu, Oslo in Norway. One of three Heinkels tasked with attacking the town of Andalsnes, the bomber was damaged by the guns of HMS Manchester. Unable to keep formation with the other Heinkels the crew were then taken by surprise by two Blackburn Skuas of No. 801 Squadron FAA from HMS Ark Royal. The pilot of Skua A7-A unleashed a hail of machine gun fire on the bomber - killing flight engineer Willi Stock. With one engine failing and the other on fire, pilot Richard Gumbrecht had no choice but to force-land somewhere among the snow covered mountains below. With Stock dead, the remaining three crew members escaped the wreckage and made their way down the mountain. The largely intact Heinkel sat on the mountain for over 30 years, before being recovered and restored by the Norwegian Armed Forces Aircraft Collection. New for 2015, using our new 3D scanning technology, comes the amazing 1:72 Heinkel HEIII P2! Responsible for more damage from strategic bombing than any other aircraft during the Battle of Britain, this super high detailed aircraft has been designed with information never before used in Airfix model design and has produced fantastic results! “A wolf in sheep’s clothing”, this formidably fast medium bomber was at first masqueraded by the Luftwaffe as a commercial aircraft, when the intention was in fact for it to be converted into the enemy’s primary bomber during early stages of World War Two.

Airfix A05006 1:72 Scale Fairey Swordfish Mk.1 Floatplane Model Kit
picture
Features:-
This is an Airfix 1/72 Scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the Swordfish Mk.I floatplane, a variant of the Fairey Swordfish, a single-engine biplane torpedo-bomber used by the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy during World War II. Model kit features: Kit features excellent fabric over frame effects, engraved panel lines, well appointed cockpit and gunner's station, separate internal truss framing, highly detailed radial engine with separate exhaust collector ring, individual control surfaces, choice of folded or extended wings, wing assembly jig, injection-molded windscreen, torpedo (with handling trolley), drop tank and 100 lb bombs (x6). Also includes new tool float undercarriage with beaching gear. Decals and color painting reference for 2 Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm aircraft: L9768 of 814 NAS during 1938 and K8363 'Mitzi' assigned to HMS Valiant, July 1940 - includes instrument markings and wing root walkways. By the outbreak of the Second World War, the Fairey Swordfish was considered outdated, as its fabric covered light metal frame and slow flying speed made it extremely vulnerable to anti-aircraft armament and fighters of the era. However, the Fairey Swordfish's low flying speed made it an excellent platform for launching torpedoes, and in that role, the Fairey Swordfish enjoyed a great deal of success. Most notable engagements involving the Fairey Swordfish include the Battle of Taranto (1940), where several Italian warships were heavily damaged by waves of Swordfish bombers, and the famous attack of the Bismarck (1941), where Swordfish bombers crippled the German battleship, which led to its ultimate sinking by the Royal Navy.
