Question - Is it necessary to graft grape vines onto a rootstock?

Could anybody help me. I have inherited three grape vines, they are white desert apparently. I took a dozen cuttings from them a few weeks ago to your instructions and they have taken. I need to know if they can be grown on as vines, or if they have to be grafted onto American rootstock. I also have a couple of Triomphe d alsace vines that I was going to do the same with. Is it imperative to have them grafted or is the risk of disease low these days. Any help would be appreciated.
