AnswerMums, Chrysanthemums, vary in their degree of hardiness (ability to withstand frost). Generally most will withstand frost but some varieties are only hardy in the Zones subject to light frost. If you can obtain a catalog it should tell you, but most Mums are sold for Zones 5-9. Ensure that the plants overwinter with at least 12 in (30 cm) of stalk on the plant as during autumn and early winter it allows the sap to die down the main stem. Mums usually need some form of protection during the winter from the damp weather conditions and from slugs and snails.
