Answers

Hibiscus can be propagated by taking heel cuttings from lateral (side) shoots 3-4 inches (7-12 cms) long from the main branches, late spring and summer. Insert into pots containing an equal mixture of peat and sharp sand or John Innes potting compost No.1. Cover with a propagator top or polythene bag and keep moist throughout the remainder of the summer. The method is similar to taking heel cuttings for conifers. They should root by the autumn when they can be potted up.
